Excerpt: After-hours trading is stock trading that occurs after the traditional trading hours of the major exchanges, such as the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq Stock Market. Since 1985 the regular trading hours have been from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Example chart of extended hours trading, via Google FinanceTrading outside these regular hours is not a new phenomenon, but it has generally been limited to high net-worth investors and institutional investors, such as mutual funds. The emergence of private trading systems, known as electronic communication networks, or ECNs, has allowed individual investors to participate in after-hours trading. After Hours trading on a day with a normal session is 4 - 8 p.m. EST. After-hours trading is frequently abbreviated on message boards as AH. That has led people to jokingly refer to after-hours trading as "amateur hour", as the people who trade during that time are mostly small retail traders and not institutional investors, and, barring material news, it frequently does not reflect how trading will be the next morning. Trading may also occur before the traditional trading hours, but that is known as pre-market trading. Volatility and Correlation: The Perfect Hedger and the Fox (Wiley Financ

In Volatility and Correlation 2nd edition: The Perfect Hedger and the Fox, Rebonato looks at derivatives pricing from the angle of volatility and correlation. With both practical and theoretical applications, this is a thorough update of the highly successful Volatility & Correlation – with over 80% new or fully reworked material and is a must have both for practitioners and for students. The new and updated material includes a critical examination of the ‘perfect-replication’ approach to derivatives pricing, with special attention given to exotic options; a thorough analysis of the role of quadratic variation in derivatives pricing and hedging; a discussion of the informational efficiency of markets in commonly-used calibration and hedging practices. Treatment of new models including Variance Gamma, displaced diffusion, stochastic volatility for interest-rate smiles and equity/FX options. The book is split into four parts. Part I deals with a Black world without smiles, sets out the author’s ‘philosophical’ approach and covers deterministic volatility. Part II looks at smiles in equity and FX worlds. It begins with a review of relevant empirical information about smiles, and provides coverage of local-stochastic-volatility, general-stochastic-volatility, jump-diffusion and Variance-Gamma processes. Part II concludes with an important chapter that discusses if and to what extent one can dispense with an explicit specification of a model, and can directly prescribe the dynamics of the smile surface. Part III focusses on interest rates when the volatility is deterministic. Part IV extends this setting in order to account for smiles in a financially motivated and computationally tractable manner. In this final part the author deals with CEV processes, with diffusive stochastic volatility and with Markov-chain processes. Praise for the First Edition: “In this book, Dr Rebonato brings his penetrating eye to bear on option pricing and hedging.… The book is a must-read for those who already know the basics of options and are looking for an edge in applying the more sophisticated approaches that have recently been developed.” —Professor Ian Cooper, London Business School “Volatility and correlation are at the very core of all option pricing and hedging. In this book, Riccardo Rebonato presents the subject in his characteristically elegant and simple fashion…A rare combination of intellectual insight and practical common sense.” —Anthony Neuberger, London Business School

Electronic trading platforms and the cost-effective distribution of open

This digital document is a journal article from International Journal of Information Management, published by Elsevier in 2006. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.Description: Over the next years, the ageing profile of the UK population will lead to a sharp increase in the volumes of pension annuity sales. Every individual that participates in a defined contribution occupational or a personal pension scheme is obliged to convert the capital accumulated into a regular post-retirement income by purchasing an annuity before the age of 75. To ensure a more competitive market the UK Financial Services Authority has ruled that from 1 September 2002 pensioners must be informed that they have the right to purchase their annuities from suppliers other than their current pension provider-this is termed exercising an open market option (OMO). However, the complicated nature of pensions and annuities means the purchase of an annuity is highly dependent upon the information provided by the sellers of these products and the advice received. Given that OMO's are supposed to encourage purchasers to be able to access information on a whole range of annuities from the various suppliers in the market, a single web-based hub that linked manufacturers, distributors and existing industry portals seemed the obvious solution to the challenges facing the industry following the government legislation. However, while the industry recognised that a single product purchasing and servicing system would meet the data management needs of all its stakeholders and carry enormous potential to realise cost and business process efficiencies, the competitive nature of the industry and the slow decision making processes within the individual companies has meant that the project to build 'The Annuity Exchange' has suffered a number of setbacks and delays. This article describes the business case for 'The Annuity Exchange', its objectives and design, and the technical/industry engagement issues it has faced.

Day Trading Basics - Do You Have What it Takes to Be A Day Trader?

What is Day Trading? Most financial markets are open between certain hours on a daily basis. Wall Street, for example, officially the New York Stock Exchange, is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm Eastern Standard Time. Between those hours, Monday to Friday, hundreds of people trade units, buying and selling in accordance with the shifts and trends of individual markets. People trade everything from stocks to currencies, stock options to future contracts. Some markets are open around the clock, but day trading refers specifically to the practice of buying and selling financial units on a market on a single day. If you’re a day trader, you might buy stock from the Coco Cola at, say, 9.30am. You buy 100 units at $5.00. You’ve seen the value of the stock is on an upward trend. When the market for Coco Cola – the market for beverages – opened that morning, the value of Coco Cola’s stock was $4.95. You buy at $5.00. You’ve watched the stock value carefully during the day. It goes up to $7.00 by 1pm. But then, after lunch, the stock begins to loose value. It goes down from $7.00 per unit to $6.90 and so you decide to sell the units of stock you bought this morning. In the morning you bought 100 units of Coco Cola stock for...
